Last chance to make a charitable donation...

As the end of the year approaches, consider making one last charitable donation to your favorite cause. Some online resources may point you in the right direction for finding the charity that does work you believe in and the money you donate goes directly towards completing that work. Charity Navigator is one great resource that evaluates charities that looks at the financial health of the organization.

Here are some of our favorite local nature-related charitable organizations (there are tons more out there!).
Just remember to keep a record of the donation, so that you can make it tax deductible!

Shipping Deadlines Approaching

A few more gift guides from around the web - the last days for shipping in time for Christmas are quickly approaching, so get shopping!

not martha's ultimate guide to guides
My two favorite from the list are Design*Sponge's Gift Guides, which we mentioned earlier (now she has an ecofriendly guide posted) and Chow.com's 76 gifts, each grouped by price.

Unclutterer's Gift Guide for those who say "no" to more stuff.

Modishoppe's Gift Guide
on homemade gifts from independent designers.

And of course the newspaper's and magazines all have their selections posted too! Here are a few of them...

Trees and Beads

Similar to the garland ideas we posted earlier this week, another way to decorate your house this holiday season is by bringing in a good piece of driftwood or manzanita wood and decorating it with some beads. We are always on the look out for beautiful branches. Last year, we put some black flat rocks in the bottom of a vase and placed a gorgeous piece of manzanita in it. To bring some sparkle to the piece, Don, one of our designers, wrapped strings of clear crystal beads around each of the branches. The final result was beautiful - modern, sleek, and interesting. I wish we had a picture of the piece. The concept reminds me of ice frozen on tree branches, perfect for the winter season.

To get an idea of the look, Perfect Bound posted two pictures of beautiful trees draped with crystal beads that reminded me about our similar "tree" from last year. Ours was done on a much smaller scale though and the beads were wrapped, not draped. The picture to the right is from Geoff Howell and photo by Jeff McNamara.

Nettleton Hollow, an online store from New York, stocks a lot of different types of branches and wood. Or you can stop by the shop to see what we have on hand - like I said, we are always on the look out for beautiful pieces.

Bud Vases

Bud vases make using and buying flowers so easy and affordable. They provide a simple way to bring fresh flowers into your home or workspace. With just one or two stems of gerber daisies, roses, ranunculus, or your favorite flower, a bud vase easily comes to life. These beautiful and homemade bud vases are all available from Etsy.

Top left: From kimwestad, $75.00; Top right: from lurearts, $20.00; Middle left: From Mayware, $10.00; Middle right: kimwestad, $80.00; Bottom left: contrabandstudios, $9.00;Bottom right: juditavill, $70.00 (set of two)

Each vase is one of a kind, so if it is sold by the time you get there, check out the designers' other items for sale to see if you find anything else that you like!

Garland

Using garland to decorate your tree or home is an easy way to bring some holiday color into your space. While browsing a few blogs, I stumbled upon this felt garland featured at SwissMiss. The garland comes from Abitare, a Brooklyn Heights-based home and decor shop.
For traditional green garland, Martha Stewart posted directions on how to create a Eucalyptus garland with waxed berries. All you need to complete this project is time, rope, floral wire, shears, Eucalyptus stems, plastic berries, wax tapers, and satin ribbon. Click here for all the details.

Gift Ideas - Regular Flower Arrangements

Receiving flowers always brightens your day. Why not give someone the gift of flowers? This is an excellent gift idea for someone special in your life. Who ever that person is he or she will receive beautiful flowers and a regular reminder about how much you care about them!

All we need to know is your budget, where you want the flowers delivered, and when and how often you want them delivered. If you or the receiver has particular likes or dislikes, please let us know. We will make a note on the account to be sure to incorporate the flowers you love into the arrangements and leave the flowers you don't like out of the arrangements.

Give KaBloom of Sandy Springs a call at 404.303.0530 or visit our shop at 227 Sandy Springs Place, Building D, Suite 512, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, and we will set you all up!

Hanukkah almost here!

Hanukkah begins tonight! If you are in need of some inspiration for some last minute gifts, check out this great series by the Designist Dream. Having moved from America to Israel, Ziva now focuses this blog on Israeli art and design. Over the past week, she published a series of gift suggestions for the people in your life. Click here for the link to the first guide. While you might not be able to buy the exact products and have them delivered in time for tonight or this week, but you may find some inspiring suggestions. Below are some of my favorite items that she featured throughout all her guides.
